Once the home of Pasquale Revoltella, a wealthy Triestini merchant, the Revoltella house-museum features an extraordinary collection of artworks. Thanks to Pasquale’s love of contemporary art, he spent a great deal of his money in support of Triestini artists. Today, the city continues that patronage at his bequest, which is also the reason his massive collection of 19th and 20th-century art now covers the floors of the Palazzo Brunner, located adjacent to the house.

A Spectacular Collection of Impressive Art.

The Revoltella Museum is undoubtedly one of the most important modern art galleries in Italy. It has been a source of unending joy for visitors to the city since Pasquale Revoltella bequeathed the palace and his entire art collection to Trieste in 1869. In addition to the building and all its contents, the museum also received a substantial income allowing it to add even more pieces to the heritage year after year.

By the late 19th century, the collection included many Italian painters, such as Morelli, Hayez, Favretto, Palizzi, Nono, and Previati. It also boasted a few foreign painters. At the beginning of the 20th century, the collection was further enriched thanks to acquisitions of valuable works like the 1878 painting from De Nittis, ‘Lady with a Dog’, which was obtained at the Venice Biennale art festival.
